Applications

External heating systems reach their limits wherever heat must be introduced directly into a tool or component. Tubular cartridge heaters are installed in bores and transfer heat directly, providing uniform temperature distribution, short heating times and repeatable processes. RPM, RDO-RP and RPO are Ihne & Tesch tubular cartridge heaters for directly heating tools, nozzles and machine components. Installed in bores, they transfer heat uniformly to the surrounding material. With operating temperatures up to 600 °C and watt densities up to 15 W/cm², they cover injection moulding, hot-runner technology, pipe extrusion and die casting.

Tubular cartridge heaters are primarily used for mandrel heating in pipe extrusion. They heat the mandrel from within and provide uniform temperatures across the entire cross-section. This improves wall-thickness consistency and reduces internal stress in the extruded pipe. Distributed output and integrated thermocouples are frequently specified for this application.

RPM, RDO-RP and RPO differ in wall thickness, connection design and watt density. The three types therefore cover different installation conditions and temperature requirements. Selection depends on bore diameter, installation length, required output and operating temperature. Our engineers will assist with specification.

Yes. Ihne & Tesch RPM, RDO-RP and RPO tubular cartridge heaters are available with either an integrated or sheathed thermocouple. Direct measurement at the installation point improves control accuracy and prevents overheating, particularly in hot-runner systems and mandrel heating.

Tubular cartridge heaters are preferable where heat must be introduced inside a component, such as in bores, cores, mandrels or mould inserts. Band heaters are designed to heat the outside of barrels and nozzles. Tubular cartridge heaters minimise external heat loss in tools with internal heating bores, hot-runner systems and mandrel heating.

Ihne & Tesch RPM, RDO-RP and RPO tubular cartridge heaters are custom-manufactured to size. Typical delivery time is two to three weeks. Bore diameter, installation length, voltage and required output are sufficient for specification.
