Frequently asked questions about cast-in heating elements

Ihne & Tesch cast-in heating elements are used in food and pharmaceutical packaging systems to seal cups, blisters, tubular bags and other packaging formats. Typical equipment includes sealing, thermoforming, tubular-bag and dairy machines.

Ihne & Tesch cast-in heating elements for packaging applications can operate at temperatures up to 450 °C. The actual maximum depends on the selected surface coating: PTFE coatings are designed for lower temperatures than uncoated or electroless-nickel-plated versions.

Ihne & Tesch supplies connection versions with protection ratings up to IP67. ATEX-certified versions are also available for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, particularly for pharmaceutical and food packaging applications with stringent safety requirements.

Various coatings are available: a non-stick PTFE coating for gentle product contact, electroless nickel plating for greater corrosion resistance, and other special coatings on request. The selected coating affects the maximum operating temperature.

Yes. Ihne & Tesch manufactures, reconditions, repairs and overhauls cast-in heating elements. Defective or worn units can therefore be restored economically instead of being replaced with costly new parts.

Yes. Ihne & Tesch manufactures numerous geometries, including plane-parallel versions, embedded cooling tubes for heating/cooling combinations, insulated versions and bespoke shapes. Every version is custom-made for the relevant packaging machine.
